Fan Video for The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. [22 Mar 2013|07:54am]
Book Description:
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.

If you haven't read the book it's truly amazing and I highly recommend it.

A humorous blog post on film piracy.
In Search of Pirates

They sound like hysterical Victorian women, these studio executives. "Why are we losing money? Because of pirates! PIRATES, I say! Great flotillas of them! Oh, do hide our ladies and children from the fearsome pirates! Where is my fainting couch??"

Top 10 Zombie Movies [06 Nov 2010|09:41pm]
After watching The Walking Dead on AMC last week I found this video of a top 10 zombie movie list. After thinking about it I came up with my top 10 list. Since I don't restrict my zombie watching to just movies so my list does include tv shows.
My rules of what I consider a zombie movies:
* can't be crazed like in The Signal or Impluse
* can't be taken over like in Evil Dead or Slither

My top 10 Zombie shows/movies
1 The Walking Dead (U.S. show)
2 World War Z
3 Resident Evil #3
4 Shaun of the Dead
5 Dance of the Dead
6 Resident Evil #4
7 Zombieland
8 Warm Bodies
9 Dead Set (UK show)
10 28 Days Later

Seen It
Night of the Comet
Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies
Dead Snow
Dawn of the Dead
Planet Terror
Exit Humanity
Pet Sematary
Dead Season

Have a suggestion for a zombie movie or let me know what movies you'd have on your list.

Review: The Walking Dead (AMC) [23 Oct 2010|12:47pm]

Premieres on AMC October 31st.

Starring Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break), Lennie James (Jericho) and Jon Bernthal.

Created and Written by Frank Darabont (The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption)

After being shot officer Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) wakes up in an empty hospital. Finding the world he knew gone and replaced with a zombie infested new one and his wife and son missing. After learning that Atlanta is a safe zone he sets off to search for his family.

I'm a fan of zombie movies and this goes on my "can't miss " list. Since I can't watch Alice and RE continuously (although I've tried) I'll take Rick Grimes and The Walking Dead as the next best thing.

Full of everything that makes zombie watching fun including hordes of decaying walking dead ...or in some cases crawling, big guns, exploding heads and plenty of emotional drama.

While I did see a few plot holes that urked me (really would Rick's family leave him lying in a hospital bed while they run to safety?) it didn't take away from my total enjoyment of the story. It does have a goodly amount of gore that is usual fare in zombie flicks but it doesn't rely on the use blood and guts as it's sole purpose as some zombie movies do.

I do like that this show seems to be more character driven than plot driven. While the zombie outbreak is the catalyst that moves the characters, the characters are the story. Who they are and the choices they make looks like what will propel them through the story.

I can't wait to find out the hows and whys of this strange new world that Officer Grimes has woken up in.
